PrEP + doxy-PEP: Double Up Your HIV & STI Protection

Hey, gorgeous! We know you have choices when it comes to HIV and sexually transmitted infection (STI) prevention and treatment, but let’s be real—why settle for the bare minimum when you can have the whole package – PrEP and doxy-PEP?

We wanted to remind everyone that when you come to us for PrEP, we can also provide doxy-PEP (aka doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis, aka STI-PEP, aka “The Morning After STI Pill”) to help prevent STI’s like chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis. Sure, anyone can offer PrEP, but Q Care Plus doubles your protection with both PrEP and doxy-PEP prescriptions so you can double your fun! Here’s why Q Care Plus is your go-to for more than just a cheeky encounter with a cotton swab.

BUT FIRST… let’s get a few quick details out of the way.

At Q Care Plus, we ONLY test PrEP patients for STIs at the same time we’re testing for HIV! But it’s important to note that if you do test positive for an STI during this process, don’t worry at all! We take care of that treatment for you as well! If you and your Q Care Plus provider decide that PrEP and doxy-PEP are right for you, we will send prescriptions for both medications at the same time. Q Care Plus only prescribes doxy-PEP to patients in eligible states and only with your PrEP initial or quarterly prescription from Q Care Plus.

Ok! Now, for a quickie, let’s brush up on our STI knowledge.

Understanding STIs

Quick Facts:

  • In 2022, over 2.5 million cases of STIs were reported in the US.
  • Gay and bisexual men who have sex with men (MSM) and racial and ethnic minorities are at higher risk of STIs than other individuals.
  • All common bacterial STIs are treatable, but it’s a lot better to prevent them, and they are all preventable!
  • Along with PrEP for HIV, Q Care Plus offers doxy-PEP to help prevent chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis.

According to the CDC a sexually transmitted infection (STI) is a virus, bacteria, fungus, or parasite people can get through sexual contact. Many STIs have no symptoms, so people can have an infection but not know it.” MSM are at higher risk of getting STIs and for the same reasons, also are at higher risk of getting HIV.  The only way to be sure if you do or don’t have an STI is to get tested

What happens if you don’t treat STIs?

When left untreated, STIs can sometimes lead to long-term health issues. This is why Q Care Plus, unlike some other TelePrEP providers, will prescribe STI treatment medication for you if you test positive for an STI during your PrEP screening.

  • HIV – If left untreated, HIV impacts your immune system and can progress to AIDS. Learn more about AIDS.
  • Chlamydia and Gonorrhea – These STIs can lead to more serious infections involving the testicles. Gonorrhea can spread throughout the body, damaging joints, the heart, and other tissues. In rare cases, untreated chlamydia and gonorrhea can also lead to infertility.  Learn more about chlamydia and gonorrhea.
  • Syphilis – Syphilis moves around in your body if not treated and damages your heart, brain, eyes, and other organs. Learn more about syphilis.

Why Q Care Plus?

With over 25 million STIs diagnosed every year, the need for fast and easy access to PrEP for HIV and doxy-PEP for chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis is more important than ever. Being aware of common STIs and your HIV status helps everyone take control of their sex lives.

Ok, so why get PrEP and doxy-PEP from us? Like we said before, we know you have choices when it comes to selecting your trusted online PrEP and doxy-PEP provider. Q Care Plus shines head and shoulders above the rest for several reasons. And not to toot our own horn, but they are some DAMN good ones too.

1. We test for STIs. Because we care!

We want to protect you from ALL STIs, not just HIV. At Q Care Plus, we’re all about thoroughness. We test for chlamydia, gonorrhea and, yes, unlike some other TelePrEP providers, we test for syphilis too. Why? Because we want to keep you protected and we care about the whole you.

With Q Care Plus, HIV and STI testing could not be easier! Our patients can test in the comfort of their home or, if preferred, in-person at a local lab. With our at-home testing, we deliver test kits with everything you need to collect samples, easy-to-follow instructions, and quick processing times.

What our patients say.

Even if you need an in-person shot for treatment of that STI, we navigate you to the place you can get it, and we confirm you received recommended treatment.

What our patients say.

“Q Care Plus is a game-changer! I got connected to my provider and he has been swift, to-the-point, and always there to help me get my testing kit, PrEP meds, and STI treatment meds. So fast and so easy! 6 stars!!”

3. We provide AMAZING customer service! But don’t just take our word for it.

What our patients say.

“If I could give 10 stars to this service, I would. It is incredible how efficient these folks are with their medical care, communication, appointment setup, lab testing services, prescription refill process, and so much more. I took a chance on Q Care Plus after spotting an ad on an app. So glad I did because I have not experienced one thing that was unpleasant about the way they do their business. The kits I receive for collecting specimens are so well packaged and labeled that you really don’t need anything more to do what needs to be done. In particular, I want to give a shoutout to my provider who has been helping me with my lab tests, results, and refills for several months now. I am super impressed by his quick and clear communication as well as his dedication to providing excellent customer service. If you are even remotely considering a switch to Q Care Plus, don’t think…just do it!”

Vikram, Q Care Plus Patient, 5 Stars, Google Review

“Excellent customer service and follow up with my provider. Very professional and very easy to communicate. Testing and prescriptions work very well. Great care without having to go to your doctor every 3 months. I highly recommend and have passed on information to friends who feel the same.”

Responsible Use of Doxy-PEP

Q Care Plus is committed to improving the sexual health and general wellness of LGBTQ+ community members. We recognize research is ongoing to evaluate the known benefit of doxy-PEP in HIV PrEP users and people living with HIV in reducing STI rates, weighed against the known and yet-unknown effect of this intervention on bacterial resistance and the microbiome. The Q Care Plus PrEP and doxy-PEP initiative involves careful prescribing, judicious refills, and consistent patient counseling. We are engaging with investigators to evaluate our initiative’s effectiveness in reducing incident STIs along with other implications.
