In Partnership with CHAG
Founded in 1985, Community Health Awareness Group (CHAG) provides a fully integrated continuum of harm reduction, health education, communicable disease prevention, prioritized HIV/STI/viral hepatitis testing, evidenced-based HIV prevention interventions, primary medical care, early intervention, and a full spectrum of HIV/STI care services and access to other supportive services. CHAG’s size and expertise are the result of more than 30 years of experience in community-based outreach to hidden populations with high-risk behaviors, including those already HIV infected.
Our mission is to “address current health issues and concerns of the African-American citizens of Detroit, to provide compassionate and nonjudgmental services through culturally appropriate and ethnically sensitive programs, and to develop effective ways of promoting and implementing positive health strategies to influence the overall quality of life of the African-American community.” By following our mission, we have been able to offer individualized interventions to the African-American community by providing a bridge to other health and human services throughout the metropolitan area. For many African Americans in Detroit who are living with, at-risk for, or affected by HIV, CHAG is the point at which all other services begin.
